How is the Curl Score calculated?

We read 2 public Reddit discussions and logged each person's opinion of each product as positive, mixed or negative, and members add theirs when they review a product here. The Curl Score puts those on a scale of 1 to 5: every opinion positive would be 5, every one negative 1, and an even split 3, with a mixed opinion counting as half positive. Passing mentions aren't opinions, so they don't count, and each person counts once per product. Every brand is scored the same way, but these are comments, not verified purchases or a survey. The verdict

The best-liked styler: a thin, lightweight gel that defines without crunch and lasts for days.

The full verdict

Reviewers describe it as a liquid gel or lotion, and several call it their number one or the brand's best product. It defines without stickiness or stiffness, gives day two and three hair, and a 10oz bottle lasted one reviewer almost a year. Several layer it under a foam or mousse, and one says that gives incredible results to day five. The only real doubt is from a reviewer in the desert, whose curls were shiny and bouncy for about three hours before turning frizzy.

The only styler I use: lightweight, it defines without crunch, gives me day 2-3 hair, and a 10oz bottle lasts almost a year.

Their I Create Volume is the only styling product I use now! I originally balked at the price, but one 10oz bottle lasted me almost a full year. It’s super lightweight and improves definition without a crunch. I didn’t think I’d be able to get day 2-3 hair with something so lightweight but I can and do! Big fan.

Shiny, bouncy curls for about 3 hours, then frizzy and undefined in the desert.

I love I create volume and I create lift when I first style. Shiny, bouncy curls for about 3 hours. I live in the desert so by the end of the day all of the moisture has been sapped out and I’m a frizzy, stringy, undefined mess.

It might be the brand's best product.

Strong agree. This is by far the best brand for my hair and i also agree that I Create Volume might be their best product of all.

A liquid gel or lotion, and my favourite product.

It's a liquid gel/lotion. It's my favorite product. Voss the Curl Boss on FB has a ton of content or how best to use, especially as a refresher. I think AG Liquid Effects is the other similar product.

I’d been using I Create Curl Memory for a while and liked it although it was super easy to get too crunchy. I saw someone I think here post about I Create Volume and picked that up and fell in love! I do a layer of that topped with a layer of mousse (Herbal Essence at the moment) and have been getting incredible results. I planned to wash my hair today but had such good curls still after day 3 yesterday that I didn’t bother. Will probably go through day 5 tomorrow!

The biggest thing with Innersense products is that they’re very concentrated. You have to add loads of water to get the seaweed/slippy feel but lord it’s so worth it. I’ve been using color radiance shampoo & conditioner, hydrating cream hairbath, I create hold & I create volume for a decade now. I have high density, fine 3c/4a curls. Start with a small amount then if your hair feels dry add warm water, repeat process until you get the feel of seaweed. The only product I’ve tried and can’t get to work for my hair is I create curl memory. My hair looks amazing but after a few days it gets so matted and I think something in it mildly irritates my scalp.

My go-to for real styling, paired with a foam mousse.

My hair salon uses innersense so I've been using their I create volume gel lotion with a foam mousse, and that's my go to if I want to actually style my hair. Not sure about shampoos or conditioners but I like their styling products!

I have mixed feelings on this brand.. I use it because my stylist requires use but it took me soooo long to figure out that I had to dilute the leave in, quiet calm curl control significantly even when my hair was sopping wet. The I create lift mouse was sooo hard I looked like Rick James even with one pump per section. I love I create volume gelee though and have kept that in my arsenal

My number one: a thin, serum-like gel that gives definition without stickiness or stiffness.

This is my holy grail brand. It is pricey but the products last forever for me. I have fine 2c/3a curls. I create volume is my number one. It’s so much like Curl Keeper- a thin serum like gel that creates definition without stickiness or stiffness. I use that with the I create lift foam mousse. Together they provide the perfect amount of touchable definition for me. I love their hydrating hair bath and conditioner. You need a lot of water to get the slip from the conditioner. It’s so concentrated you just need a small amount of product. Their sweet spirit leave in spray has such an amazing smell and it is the perfect refresher for me. Leaves my hair soft and smelling incredible. The I create hold is very stiff hold. I prefer a lighter feel but it does really work if you want to lock your curls down. I tried the quiet calm curl control and it’s too heavy for me and doesn’t really do much of anything. The detox hair mask didn’t do much either.

I use it as a filler after Sweet Spirit in my summer routine.

I have been using this brand for a couple of years now. Here are my thoughts… Overall, my hair is much better shape now than it was before I started using any product in this brand. So I’m very happy with that. However, I do probably do things slightly different than other people. I have low porosity medium two thick density hair that is 3B to 3C. My hair hates products that are Shea butter based or have a lot of protein (I do realize that this brand uses those ingredients, but they are much further down on the ingredient list and my hair seems to be able to tolerate that ). My hair also hates curl creams—pretty much all curl creams, including curl creams from this brand. I also change up my product combination, depending on the time of year due to cold weather and dry air versus hot, humid weather and a lot of moisture in the air. I absolutely love, sweet spirit leave in conditioner. It has been the only conditioner it has not weighed down my hair. I have tried probably 30 or 40 different ones and this like I said is the only one that my Hair likes. I use I create volume as a filler after sweet Spirit. Then I do I create hold and top it off with I create Lyft volumizing foam. That’s my summer routine. These products make it so my hair last 4 to 5 days with minimal frizz because it does not allow my hair to absorb the moisture from the air (I can go seven days if I choose to as well). In the winter, I change it up to. I create curl memory, followed by the Lyft foam. I do this because in the winter where I am it is extremely dry and I do need something with a humectant in it to draw in some moisture. The only product I have not figured out how to use properly on my hair is I create definition foam. No matter how I pair it my hair literally flash dries. No matter what oil I use or whether I use oil or not, I cannot scrunch out the crunch because my hair literally breaks. This happens whether I use something underneath it or just use that foam. Once a week I shampoo with their color, awakening hair bath, and color radiance conditioner. The other wash day I actually use a clarifying shampoo— Malibu C undo goo. And follow that with the color awakening hair bath. I deep condition and do a repair treatment both from Innersense. That I’ve been extremely happy with. My routine has also allowed me to go a full week between wash days sometimes. That depends honestly on my activity for the week and how my hair is feeling on my scalp. So I would say I go a full seven days probably once a month other than that, I split it and do two days a week. Overall, this is the only brand where I’ve had success over multiple products. I have attempted pairing products from different brands with this brand in the past and I was never crazy about the end results. Yes it is pricey, but the products tend to last in exceedingly long time for me so, I feel like I’m actually spending about as much or less as I was prior when I was switching up products on a regular basis.

Omg can’t believe I missed this day! Innersense is my holy grail brand. I have yet to try anything from them I don’t like. I use the daily inspiration conditioner, and i’ve used I create volume gel and I create definition foam and love it all!
