How is the Curl Score calculated?
We read 3 public Reddit discussions and logged each person's opinion of each product as positive, mixed or negative, and members add theirs when they review a product here. The Curl Score puts those on a scale of 1 to 5: every opinion positive would be 5, every one negative 1, and an even split 3, with a mixed opinion counting as half positive. Passing mentions aren't opinions, so they don't count, and each person counts once per product. Every brand is scored the same way, but these are comments, not verified purchases or a survey. The verdict
A surprisingly firm foam that gives defined, frizz-free spirals for days, with a cast that can be hard to break.
The full verdict
Reviewers with fine 2B to 3A hair call it their favourite hold product and most-used styler, with well-defined, frizz-free spirals from under two pumps, and three-day hold. One reviewer is a year in with two-thirds of a bottle left. Its strength is the catch: reviewers couldn't break the cast or scrunch out the crunch, the hold got stronger each time one tried, and one reviewer's hair flash-dried and broke when scrunching it out. Treat it like a gel and use very little.
- Best for
- Fine curls that want gel-like hold from a foam
- Skip it if
- You like a soft, crunch-free finish without scrunching

I used too much once and the hold got stronger each time I tried to scrunch out the crunch; now I use 1-2 pumps per section.
3a, mix of fine and coarse

The crunch wouldn't scrunch out.

Mixed with I Create Volume on soaking wet hair, it gives a scrunchable cast and defined, soft, shiny curls.
3a, mix of fine (silvers) and coarse (pepper)

I underestimated it: surprisingly hard-hold definition from a foam.

I used too much once and I think the hold got stronger each time I attempted to scrunch out the crunch. It was crazy! Now I know to use 1 - 2 pumps for my sections (about 1 quarter of my head each)

I got really good results mixing it with I Create Volume on really soaking wet hair. My hair is 3a with a mix of fine (silvers) and coarse (pepper). The cast was finally scrunchable and the outcome was defined, soft and shiny. Next day refresh was a breeze.

I underestimated “I Create Definition.” I never would have thought a foam could give such hard hold definition. It made me look like Rick James for like a week lmao

This happened to me too. It was wild. So far it’s my favorite hold product. I have very fine but dense 2b-3a curls

The missing key to three-day hold on my fine 2C curls. It's concentrated, so a bottle lasts nearly a year.

I Create Definition has been the missing key in keeping my fine 2C curls actually holding their shape for three days. Yes my hair looks like ramen after drying but after SOTC, the definition and hold is great. It's also pretty concentrated and one regular size bottle lasted nearly a year of using 3-4 pumps every 3-4 days.

Love it. I will admit it I was late to get on this brand and I deeply regret it. My 3c/3b dense, fine curls love, love, love the I Create Lift Foam, I Create Definition Foam and the Sweet Spirit Leave In. The voluminizing foam is a staple in my permanent routine to create enough lift at the roots since mine tend to lay flat even with upside down styling. I also really appreciate how they make travel sizes of all their products and I can make a solid 3 product styling routine with the 3 I mentioned. I can also refill my travel sized versions easily with the full sized versions I own.

My most-used styler: under 2 pumps gives well-defined, frizzless spirals.

I love Innersense and I love that they offer refill pouches for many of their products. They are expensive, there’s no doubt, but they last a long time. I Create Definition is the styler I reach for the most and I only need less than 2 pumps for my whole head (thin, fine 2b/3a) and it leaves me with well defined, frizzless spirals. Other Innersense products I’ve purchased multiple times: color awakening hairbath, pure inspiration conditioner, and sweet spirit leave-in.

My go to, their stuff is the best. Their products are expensive but they last YEARS. I've had the I Create Definition Foam and Quiet Calm Curl Control Cream for over a year and still have 2/3 of a bottle of both. I do have shorter finer 2c/3a hair but still - you need the tiniest amount. And my stringy, thin hair seems to love it. If I switch to anything else, my curls look either frizzy or limp and lank.

Omg can’t believe I missed this day! Innersense is my holy grail brand. I have yet to try anything from them I don’t like. I use the daily inspiration conditioner, and i’ve used I create volume gel and I create definition foam and love it all!

I couldn't break the cast at all; I'll retry, treating it like a gel rather than a mousse.

This was my experience too lol - I felt like I couldn’t break the cast at all. I’m going to try it again and treat it more like a gel than a mousse this time.

The only product I can't use: my hair flash-dries and breaks when I scrunch out the crunch.

I have been using this brand for a couple of years now. Here are my thoughts… Overall, my hair is much better shape now than it was before I started using any product in this brand. So I’m very happy with that. However, I do probably do things slightly different than other people. I have low porosity medium two thick density hair that is 3B to 3C. My hair hates products that are Shea butter based or have a lot of protein (I do realize that this brand uses those ingredients, but they are much further down on the ingredient list and my hair seems to be able to tolerate that ). My hair also hates curl creams—pretty much all curl creams, including curl creams from this brand. I also change up my product combination, depending on the time of year due to cold weather and dry air versus hot, humid weather and a lot of moisture in the air. I absolutely love, sweet spirit leave in conditioner. It has been the only conditioner it has not weighed down my hair. I have tried probably 30 or 40 different ones and this like I said is the only one that my Hair likes. I use I create volume as a filler after sweet Spirit. Then I do I create hold and top it off with I create Lyft volumizing foam. That’s my summer routine. These products make it so my hair last 4 to 5 days with minimal frizz because it does not allow my hair to absorb the moisture from the air (I can go seven days if I choose to as well). In the winter, I change it up to. I create curl memory, followed by the Lyft foam. I do this because in the winter where I am it is extremely dry and I do need something with a humectant in it to draw in some moisture. The only product I have not figured out how to use properly on my hair is I create definition foam. No matter how I pair it my hair literally flash dries. No matter what oil I use or whether I use oil or not, I cannot scrunch out the crunch because my hair literally breaks. This happens whether I use something underneath it or just use that foam. Once a week I shampoo with their color, awakening hair bath, and color radiance conditioner. The other wash day I actually use a clarifying shampoo— Malibu C undo goo. And follow that with the color awakening hair bath. I deep condition and do a repair treatment both from Innersense. That I’ve been extremely happy with. My routine has also allowed me to go a full week between wash days sometimes. That depends honestly on my activity for the week and how my hair is feeling on my scalp. So I would say I go a full seven days probably once a month other than that, I split it and do two days a week. Overall, this is the only brand where I’ve had success over multiple products. I have attempted pairing products from different brands with this brand in the past and I was never crazy about the end results. Yes it is pricey, but the products tend to last in exceedingly long time for me so, I feel like I’m actually spending about as much or less as I was prior when I was switching up products on a regular basis.

Innersence’s products changed my entire relationship with my hair for the better! Specifically, their I Create Definition foam gives my hair enough definition & hold that I can wear it out for a week in between washes with minimal frizz (coming from someone who lives in an extremely humid climate and used to only get 1 or 2 good hair days in between wash n gos)
