How is the Curl Score calculated?

We read 2 public Reddit discussions and logged each person's opinion of each product as positive, mixed or negative, and members add theirs when they review a product here. The Curl Score puts those on a scale of 1 to 5: every opinion positive would be 5, every one negative 1, and an even split 3, with a mixed opinion counting as half positive. Passing mentions aren't opinions, so they don't count, and each person counts once per product. Every brand is scored the same way, but these are comments, not verified purchases or a survey. The verdict

A very airy foam for lightweight volume and root lift, especially on fine hair.

The full verdict

Reviewers say it's lighter than a typical mousse, with some hold, and lovely on very fine hair. Several pair it with I Create Volume for touchable definition, and one uses it as a staple for root lift on fine curls that lie flat. One reviewer who scoffed at it at first says it's great. The exception: a reviewer with fine 3C hair found it so hard, even at one pump per section, that they looked like Rick James.

I love it, used together with I Create Volume.

u/UniversityAny755 described I Create Volume perfectly and you described I Create Lift perfectly. I actually use both together and love them both but I feel like it’s harder to find a good gel than a good mousse so the gel impresses me more, if that makes sense.

Shiny, bouncy curls for about 3 hours, then frizzy and undefined in the desert.

I love I create volume and I create lift when I first style. Shiny, bouncy curls for about 3 hours. I live in the desert so by the end of the day all of the moisture has been sapped out and I’m a frizzy, stringy, undefined mess.

I have mixed feelings on this brand.. I use it because my stylist requires use but it took me soooo long to figure out that I had to dilute the leave in, quiet calm curl control significantly even when my hair was sopping wet. The I create lift mouse was sooo hard I looked like Rick James even with one pump per section. I love I create volume gelee though and have kept that in my arsenal

Warning: I’m obsessed with this brand. The following paragraphs will probably sound like a very wordy ad. It’s not; I’m just passionate. I was a DevaCurl Girl back in the day, but their reformulation turned my curls into limp noodles, which started the Great Product Hunt. I tried a ton of brands (BounceCurl, Ouidad, AG, Curlsmith) but Innersense was the first one to make my curls look, feel and smell like I wanted. I have been loyal to this brand for years and have updated my routine a few times to incorporate new products. It’s not a cheap product line for sure, but I’ve found the products to be very concentrated and last far longer than you’d expect. My hair is primarily 3B curls that are low porosity and fine. However, I’ve been going gray since I was about 15 (thanks genetics) and have large chunks of white hair that is more slightly more coarse mixed in. I tend keep washing and wet-refreshing to a minimum since the combo of two different low porosity textures makes the process of getting my hair wet and then dry again take forever and provide uneven results. Here is my Great Big Routine that I do once a week (maybe twice if it’s absolutely necessary): First wash with Color Awakening Hairbath Second wash with Bright Balance Hairbath Bright Balance Conditioner Layer Sweet Spirit Leave In and Quiet Calm Curl Control (different parts of my hair need different moisture levels) Apply liberal amounts of I Create Curl Memory Brush in sections with the Slick-Dense Define Edgelift BounceCurl brush Scrunch in I Create Lift Squeeze out all of extra water I can Spray on KMS Therma Shape Quick Blow Dry Spray (one of my rare non-Innersense products and necessary to get my hair dry in under an hour) Diffuse until it’s fully dry or I’m sweating too much to keep going Since switching to Innersense, I don’t think I’ve gone a full week of my life without getting an unsolicited compliment on my hair. Yes, I put in the time and effort to get it there, but I do give the products a lot of the credit.

I love this brand! I have high density fine hair and find that most brands make my hair stiff. But their fine/medium shampoo and conditioner is perfect for my hair and their I create curl memory and I create lift works perfectly for my hair

Love it. I will admit it I was late to get on this brand and I deeply regret it. My 3c/3b dense, fine curls love, love, love the I Create Lift Foam, I Create Definition Foam and the Sweet Spirit Leave In. The voluminizing foam is a staple in my permanent routine to create enough lift at the roots since mine tend to lay flat even with upside down styling. I also really appreciate how they make travel sizes of all their products and I can make a solid 3 product styling routine with the 3 I mentioned. I can also refill my travel sized versions easily with the full sized versions I own.

This is my holy grail brand. It is pricey but the products last forever for me. I have fine 2c/3a curls. I create volume is my number one. It’s so much like Curl Keeper- a thin serum like gel that creates definition without stickiness or stiffness. I use that with the I create lift foam mousse. Together they provide the perfect amount of touchable definition for me. I love their hydrating hair bath and conditioner. You need a lot of water to get the slip from the conditioner. It’s so concentrated you just need a small amount of product. Their sweet spirit leave in spray has such an amazing smell and it is the perfect refresher for me. Leaves my hair soft and smelling incredible. The I create hold is very stiff hold. I prefer a lighter feel but it does really work if you want to lock your curls down. I tried the quiet calm curl control and it’s too heavy for me and doesn’t really do much of anything. The detox hair mask didn’t do much either.

My summer topper; I also use it with Curl Memory in winter.

I have been using this brand for a couple of years now. Here are my thoughts… Overall, my hair is much better shape now than it was before I started using any product in this brand. So I’m very happy with that. However, I do probably do things slightly different than other people. I have low porosity medium two thick density hair that is 3B to 3C. My hair hates products that are Shea butter based or have a lot of protein (I do realize that this brand uses those ingredients, but they are much further down on the ingredient list and my hair seems to be able to tolerate that ). My hair also hates curl creams—pretty much all curl creams, including curl creams from this brand. I also change up my product combination, depending on the time of year due to cold weather and dry air versus hot, humid weather and a lot of moisture in the air. I absolutely love, sweet spirit leave in conditioner. It has been the only conditioner it has not weighed down my hair. I have tried probably 30 or 40 different ones and this like I said is the only one that my Hair likes. I use I create volume as a filler after sweet Spirit. Then I do I create hold and top it off with I create Lyft volumizing foam. That’s my summer routine. These products make it so my hair last 4 to 5 days with minimal frizz because it does not allow my hair to absorb the moisture from the air (I can go seven days if I choose to as well). In the winter, I change it up to. I create curl memory, followed by the Lyft foam. I do this because in the winter where I am it is extremely dry and I do need something with a humectant in it to draw in some moisture. The only product I have not figured out how to use properly on my hair is I create definition foam. No matter how I pair it my hair literally flash dries. No matter what oil I use or whether I use oil or not, I cannot scrunch out the crunch because my hair literally breaks. This happens whether I use something underneath it or just use that foam. Once a week I shampoo with their color, awakening hair bath, and color radiance conditioner. The other wash day I actually use a clarifying shampoo— Malibu C undo goo. And follow that with the color awakening hair bath. I deep condition and do a repair treatment both from Innersense. That I’ve been extremely happy with. My routine has also allowed me to go a full week between wash days sometimes. That depends honestly on my activity for the week and how my hair is feeling on my scalp. So I would say I go a full seven days probably once a month other than that, I split it and do two days a week. Overall, this is the only brand where I’ve had success over multiple products. I have attempted pairing products from different brands with this brand in the past and I was never crazy about the end results. Yes it is pricey, but the products tend to last in exceedingly long time for me so, I feel like I’m actually spending about as much or less as I was prior when I was switching up products on a regular basis.

Innersense is so great! My hair is really fine so I tend to need really lightweight products that still have some hold. Their volume foam is lovely. Also agree with Moxie, their foam is the best I’ve ever tried. It makes my hair actually look shiny, which for dry curly hair isn’t something I get a lot! It’s phenomenal, perfect amount of hold that stays in place but soft and shiny. I just wish I didn’t have to sell a kidney to buy it lol. A 6oz bottle of it where I live is $90 😱
