What reviewers say

The gel has more fans than critics, and some who were lukewarm about the rest of the range still buy it, usually on offer, as a finisher over cheaper products. The recurring complaint is hold: it is a soft gel, and readers who wanted a firm cast, or definition that lasts to refresh day, found it too weak. One found it drying. For more hold, the range now has the Mega Hold Curl Gel.

Switched shampoo, conditioner and gel all to Only Curls. Shampoo cleans very well with a tiny amount so it lasts; also likes the accessories. Suggests buying starter packs resold on Vinted to trial.

Yes I love it, have switched my shampoo, conditioner and gel all to OC. The shampoo makes my hair feel SO clean with the tiniest bit of product so it does last ages. Also love their accessories. There are sometimes people selling the 'starter pack' on Vinted for a reduce price - might be a good way to trial.

  2. Positive

Pleasantly surprised by the gel. Says you do not need the full range; suggests swapping in one product at a time for 2-3 washes.

It can be, but you don't need the full range. I just use standard moisturising shampoo/conditioner (not pricey) but I finish with the Only Curls enhancing gel. You could try the travel/starter kit but try just subbing in one product at a time for 2-3 washes and see how you like it. I hated the shampoo but very pleasantly surprised with the gel!

  3. Positive

Only buys the gel, when on offer, because it gives a good finish; uses it to finish after Aussie products.

I tried their products (was not blown away by it) so now only purchase the curling gel when they have offers on, as it provides a good finish. I used to use Umberto Gianni (used it for about 12 years) but they changed the ingredients and it stopped being effective. I'm currently using Aussie curl shampoo, conditioner and curl cream. Then finish with Only Curls gel.

  4. Mixed

Nice to apply but hold too soft for them (the Mega Hold gel did not exist when they tried it).

I got the sample pack (shampoo, condish, gel, cream) when I bought their towel and bonnets, I did think it was nice products that wasn't too heavy (fine haired low porosity here), the megahold gel didn't exist then, so while I found the enhanced gel nice to apply I thought it was too soft hold. Overall I simply can't justify their price. I use noughty for most, like some as i am, shea moisture, umberto and camille, and still am trying to find my fav gel or mousse. All of these are cheaper than OC. If OC was closer to these in price I would still get them.

  5. Negative

Tried sample sizes and did not like them; the gel was too drying for their hair.

I had a sample size of their products and didn't like them. The gel was too drying for my hair - I confess I don't recall why I didn't like the rest.

  6. Positive

Likes it, especially the curl crème and gel.

I use it all. I like it. Especially the curl crème and gel. The shampoo and conditioner are ok. Wouldn't rush to but more.

  7. Positive

    I like the gel.

I like the gel. Haven't used the shampoo and conditioner, but have heard good things. Find the curl crème makes my hair look greasy, but I think that's me not needing the extra oil and moisture.

  8. Positive

Drastically reduced frizz and made hair way less greasy. Probably overpriced.

I use the shampoo, conditioner, cream and gel. They've drastically reduced frizz and made my hair way less greasy. However, these are the first products I've ever used that are designed specifically for curly hair, so I don't have anything to compare them to. I would guess they are probably overpriced but I really like that they supply unscented versions.

  9. Mixed

Used their gel and it was ok but found another I preferred.

I've used that set. I didn't love the shampoo or conditioner but I'm in a hard water area and my hair needed a lot of protein so I switched to a curlsmith conditioner. But I love the curl crème. And it lasts for ages as I only use a little bit under my gel. I did use their gel and it was ok but I found another I preferred.

  10. Mixed

Good results but definitely harder hold gels out there.

I've tried them - I did get good results, although there are definitely harder hold gels out there, so it depends on what you want to achieve! Then again, I live in a soft water area, so maybe it's just me!

  11. Negative

Didn't find this gel strong enough; agrees with reviews that it's not a strong gel. Hasn't tried Mega Hold Curl Gel.

I went to a curly specialist hairdresser and they used Only Curls products on me. My hair came out looking the best it's ever looked, so I rushed to buy the products. I totally failed at matching the salon results no matter how hard I tried and I've since stopped using most of the products as I found cheaper versions give me the same results. * Cleansing co-wash - This was the first dedicated co-wash I've tried so I don't have anything to compare it to, but my hear did feel lovely and clean after using it - this is the main one that I might consider buying again, but I'd want to try some cheaper options first * All Curl Conditioner - Fine but probably not worth paying extra for.. the 75p Tesco conditioner probably does the same job * Exfoliating scalp scrub - I like it as a bit of a "luxurious" wash - I don't use it every time but it feels good to remove build up with it. It's very tricky to work into my hair though, especially before it's been detangled * Hydrating curl cream - Not sure I saw the advantage of this - I suspect comparable products from Boots do the same job * Enhancing curl gel - I didn't find this gel strong enough. It was my first time using gel so I wasn't sure if it was me doing something wrong or the gel, but I agree with some reviews I've seen that it's not a strong gel. I have not tried the Mega Hold Curl Gel * Microfibre towel - Personally I don't see the advantage over using a regular towel or a tshirt.

  12. Negative

Not a strong enough hold and didn't work great on refresh days; switched to a £3.50 gel.

I have fine wavy hair with some ringlets. It's easily weighed down. Only Curls is all too heavy for me. The curl cream made my hair so flat/greasy after Day 1, and I didn't find it that moisterising. I used to use the gel a lot, but it wasn't a strong enough hold (even though my hair doesn't need a lot), and it didn't work great on refresh days. I switched to a £3.50 gel that works better for me. I think it's expensive for what you get. For that money I would rather try Curlsmith or similar.

  13. Negative

Rest of the stuff is a bit too heavy to use regularly. Fragrance cloying; would buy from the fragrance-free line next. (Hasn't tried the curl cream.)

I've tried all the products except for the curl cream. The foam is the only thing I actually use and it's pretty good. I have really fine hair and the rest of the stuff is just a bit too heavy for me to use on a regular basis. I also find the fragrance cloying so if I buy anything else from them, it'll definitely be from the fragrance-free line. I'm a fan of the pillowcases and scrunchies though!
