How is the Curl Score calculated?

We read 2 public Reddit discussions and logged each person's opinion of each product as positive, mixed or negative, and members add theirs when they review a product here. The Curl Score puts those on a scale of 1 to 5: every opinion positive would be 5, every one negative 1, and an even split 3, with a mixed opinion counting as half positive. Passing mentions aren't opinions, so they don't count, and each person counts once per product. Every brand is scored the same way, but these are comments, not verified purchases or a survey. Sources and method

The verdict

Soft, complimented curls for its fans, especially under a gel, but weighs down or dries out some hair.

The full verdict

Reviewers say it sets curls soft and earns compliments from other curlies, and one asks for a bottle every Christmas after years of great results. Several pair it with a leave-in and a gel on top for their best hair days. It's slow to dry, and the doubts are about weight and dryness: one reviewer found it weighed their curls down a lot, another was always frizzy by the end of the day, and one says it dried their hair out badly.

Best for
A cream under gel on medium to thick curls
Skip it if
Your hair is fine, or dries out easily

One of my favourites: it lasts ages, with great results for years. I ask for a bottle every Christmas.

3A medium porosity and density here, there curl cream is one of my favourites! Lasts me ages and I’ve had great results for years. I haven’t tried much else but I’ll always ask for a bottle at Christmas to keep my going the whole year

  2. NegativeReddit comment

My first curly product: it dried my hair out badly and I never touched it again.

Started out my curly hair journey with their curl cream, dried the HELL out my hair and I never touched it again.

  3. PositiveReddit comment

I love it and the smell; I use less because my hair is fine. With Aunt Jackie's gel on top it's a winner.

I also love Cantu Curl Cream. It takes a while to dry but it really sets my curls while keeping them soft. I’ve had other people with curly hair compliment me and ask what product I’m using which is such a huge compliment imo.

  5. PositiveReddit comment

    Awesome combined with a leave-in and a scrunched-in gel.

I combine this with gel and it's awesome. I brush the curl cream through along with leave in conditioner, then scrunch in gel over it.
